A post recently made at Level2Gaming describes some of the bugs found associated with GTA4 and the respective consoles. "" For many folks, April 29th (today) has been a different day. With the release of GTAIV, many folks have finally been able to get their hands on one of the most anticipated games in a long time. Now that a few hours have passed and most are playing the game, many people are having mixed feelings. For most of the fans out there, their "minds were blown" when they finally got to play the game. Many were overly impressed and could not express the joy they had. However others were slightly disappointed due to a few hitches. Also as a side note, Rockstar's Social Club is now fully functional with their own gamertag giving people a chance to show off their progress etc. Positives * Exceptional Graphics * Excellent Physics Engine * Great Music * Fun Missions * Numerous other features ...too many to mention * No Region Lock for Multiplayer GTA forum boards across the world have been on fire with members posting their progress and questions about the game. However a number of PS3 fans are having a couple of problems. * Freezing Errors - Seems folks with the 60GB PS3 were having many freezing errors when installing the Special Edition of GTAIV...many reports are coming in claiming that this problem is occurring. A few Xbox 360 fans also complained of lock ups but the spot light really focuses on PS3 folks. Rockstar officials have been aware of the 60GB freezing problem and recommended that folks upgrade to the 80GB. WTF? For a few 360 fans are complaining that the game is freezing every hour or so and they have to end up restarting the system (seems a problem with the disc drive is finally showing its flaws). * PS3 Network Connection Problems - Many PS3 fans experienced network connection problems today, getting the this error: We just assume this is a network overload problem. I am not sure if the problem has been fixed now but I will try my best to find out. * Graphical Problems - A few 360 fans are noticing botched and inaccurate shadowing of some images, even on 1080p settings. These are just the initial reports and I would like to hear your views about the game so far. I personally will not be getting it for a while so I'll just be listening in the mean time. Otherwise have fun. "" (For discussion, visit MPN Forum)
Yep... Grand Theft Auto IV was released, in fact, few hours ago. There's nothing much to say, is there? Head over to your local video games store for it, or look into your mailbox if you pre-ordered it. For those that want a game over at Xbox LIVE, add me at HoT dEv1L 666! Cheers, and enjoy the game!
IGN has just given Grand Theft Auto IV a sparkling score of 10/10! They also have a video review in place, which includes some quality footage (I mean it!), go check it out! Two new trailers have also been released. One of them was about Niko Bellic, the other was a TV commercial that came from GameSpot, which includes old and redone footage from previous trailers and new footage too. Full News Articles: GTA IV GameSpot Trailer, IGN Review+Screenshots+Niko Bellic Trailer!
Yes, Grand Theft Auto IV has been leaked over the internet. Torrent sites are already posting downloads of the Xbox 360 game, and leaked videos of the intro cutscene and gameplay has surfaced. So far, it looks great. The game, as expected, looks better on your Game Console than on trailers or screenhots. The trees don't look as ugly as in screenhots, apparently. The graphics are also superb. I shan't reveal more, though. 34 new screens and many interviews and articles have also emerged, click here for the full stories: 24 New Screens + IGN/1up interviews, Special Edition images + many interviews/reviews + 10 screens. Enjoy!
Aaron Garbut, the Art Director at Rockstar North, has recently been interviewed by IGN and EuroGamer. Plus, Twenty brand new Screenshots of Grand Theft Auto IV, including an artwork of Mallorie, has been released by IGN, 1up and EuroGamer. Also, 20 screenshots and one new artwork was released, click here to view them! This is what he had to say: We never reproduce real world locations. We take interesting or representative elements and create something new from them. It’s about taking inspiration from real places and producing something that captures the essence of it. We’re trying to take our impression of New York and keep it as that, an impression, not a laboured reproduction.”
“I think the level of detail the cut-scene guys have achieved is intense. They have the characters interacting with the world, which is hard enough, but they also have added a lot of feedback onto the world. […] Things like pillows and mattresses bending or bouncing a little under the weight of characters sitting on it, phone cords dangling and following the phones movements, liquid moving around in glasses. It’s pretty amazing.”
“There are no hard limitations on the number of active dynamic lights around the player. The real-time shadows are working across every object and surface in the game with everything self-shadowing and casting onto everything else, there’s ambient occlusion and emissive lighting on top of that. And then your standard next-gen shenanigans - light shafts, bloom, depth of field and motion blur, and of course it goes without saying everything’s rendered with HDR.”EuroGamer Article: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=133192IGN Article: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/868/868124p1.html
has recently sat down with Rockstar Games’ Vice President of Creative, Dan Houser. Ben Fritz, the interviewer, has compiled an Interview, which discusses the Grand Theft Auto series, specifically Grand Theft Auto IV. Here's a Summary: -Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas focused on removing restrictions, while Grand Theft Auto IV focuses ore on implementing things that make sense for the location or for the character. -In GTA IV, Rockstar aims to recreate the feeling of jumping from GTA 2 to GTA III. It’s not just an improvement; it’s something completely different. GTA 2 to GTA III was a graphical revamp; GTA III to GTA IV is a phenomenal increase in detail (in story, character, city and relationships). -The Euphoria physics in GTA IV make the game feel more alive; greatly improved graphics make emotions easier to convey. It’s all about making the game more natural. -The story reflects the gameplay. The more realistic the game looks and feels, the more realistic the story can be. -Rockstar [Games]’s dream with their games is to always make everything a flowing, completely integrated experience. -The development process for GTA IV was professional yet unstructured. The team hasn’t really changed since GTA 3, so the process is largely intuitive. -The original Liberty City (from GTA III) was never meant to imitate New York City; it was just “vaguely East Coast-ish”, as said before in earlier interviews. -As with previous Grand Theft Auto titles, extensive research was done to capture the true essence of New York City. -When coming up with the concept of Niko, Rockstar wanted someone that was tough yet foreign; he’s both battle-hardened and innocent at the same time. -It took approximately six months to come up with a rough design of what represents New York City. Actually building that representation of New York (Liberty City, in this case) took years to complete. -As the city is created, the story begins to develop with Dan bouncing ideas off of Sam and Leslie Benzies. The story begins to be developed, artists start to work on the characters, and the designers begin to break down the story into missions. -Developing the actual Grand Theft Auto experience is a daunting task; although the game isn’t linear, Rockstar sets it up in such a way that any given situation is predetermined. From the article: “We know where you can move around the map. We know when you can unlock everything. So although the thing to you playing game is non-linear because at any point you might have 15 things you can do, we can track on a huge multi-tiered doc, where you can be. So we know at that point can’t see other things. We’re trying to tell a story, design a videogame and take you on a trip around the world all at the same time.“ -While San Andreas and Vice City took much influence from films, GTA IV does not. With the Rockstar team being based in New York City (and much of the team having lived there their entire lives), it makes more sense to base the game off of their own first-hand knowledge and experience of the city. -The main reason that we haven’t seen multiplayer Grand Theft Auto in the past is technical limitations; the hardware just couldn’t handle the strain that a full GTA multiplayer experience would dish out. -For GTA IV, the multiplayer experience isn’t meant to be revolutionary or completely innovative; it’s simply meant to be the best multiplayer GTA experience possible. Multiplayer recreates moments while singleplayer creates narrative; it’s all a very cinematic experience. The storytelling experience in GTA IV is far beyond anything we’ve seen in any Grand Theft Auto title to date. When we look at Niko’s situation in GTA IV, we see him as a serious individual with problems that he most overcome; the world that he’s stuck in, and the issues of those around Niko, are considerably ridiculous by comparison. It’s this tone that defines the game. Here for the interview: LINK
French gaming magazine PSM3 is the latest in an ever-growing list of media outlets that has been invited to (p)review GTA4. The key points from their article are below - be aware that there is a possible spoiler so you may want to be careful when reading these. - The use of L2 & R2 for braking and accelerating is confirmed. - The game supposedly "looks great at 1080p". - You can use the underground metro/subway system to get around the city. - A weapon shop has been confirmed to be in the game. - Packie is Irish. - *Possible Spoiler*: One mission involves robbing a bank. Police and SWAT teams are after you after the heist and you must escape through the underground metro system. - When you purchase clothes, you click on the item and you try it out straight away; there are none of the unbearable loading times from San Andreas. - Pay 'n' Spray's are confirmed but only to change your car paint. They won't affect your star rating. - There are some problems with the aiming system - Niko sometimes feels 'heavy' while moving and the A.I. can be dumb at times, but this is barely noticeable and fairly excusable considering the scale and the complexity of the environment around you. - Best game ever made. Score given: 20/20 Thanks to our partner site GTA4.tv for the article!

The first man to finish Grand Theft Auto IV is actually Rob Taylor, deputy editor of Xbox World 360 magazine. Every Grand Theft Auto fan’s dream, huh? He has, to be kind enough, writen a spoiler-free article on his experience. Click here for the article!
The first ever Grand Theft Auto IV in-game screenshots were released, this time, courtesy of the latest issue of thee ZOO! magazine. The first one show Niko Bellic on foot, while the second one shows the player in a vehicle. Well, many of you wished for in-game screenshots of Grand Theft Auto IV. So, here they are! Savour the pictures (click to enlarge them, don’t forget to save them to your hard drive!) An ambitious announcement has been made detailing a partnership between Rockstar games and internet giant Amazon. Yahoo has an article explaining what exactly this means. Here is the highlight of the article:
"Advertised throughout Liberty City, the cheekily-named "ZiT" technology is built into the game's mobile phone interface system. As players cruise around the world listening to the in-game radio, they can at any point 'mark' a song by opening their phone and dialing the number ZIT-555-0100. Gamers will then receive a text message with the song and artist names, and if they're registered at the forthcoming Rockstar Games Social Club community site, they'll find an e-mail waiting in their inbox with a direct link to a custom playlist on Amazon.com. All songs tagged "ZiT" will be stored here, available for preview and purchase at Amazon's going rate of $.89-$.99 per track. Best of all, those MP3s are free of the Digital Rights Management (DRM) limitations imposed on files downloaded through Apple's iTunes store and thus can be imported into any computer or digital device with no constraints."
Excellent idea. But if your one of those Limewire or Torrent users your luck has just ran out as Rockstar have stated that None of those tracks, however, are accessible outside the game.

It seems that "Game 3.0" is really happening. Rockstar have just announced Rockstar Social Club. On April 15th you can sign up with a Playstation Network ID/Xbox Live Gamercard and share your stats and more! Here is the full list of features:
* LCPD Police Blotter - A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.
* The Story Gang - This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.
* The 100% Club - Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.
* The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.
* The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

With just a little bit below 40 days to go before the release date, it seems the ESRB has just rated Grand Theft Auto IV. It was really expected, given the fact that every Grand Theft Auto game since the first one has been rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB. This means that citizens in the United States can only play Grand Theft Auto IV if they are 17 years or older. The reasons for the “M” for Mature rating, given by the ESRB was as such: Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, Blood, Intense Violence. Read More...

Following EA's hostile move to purchase outstanding shares at its original $26 per share, Take-Two has released a statement urging shareholders to withhold action until the publisher can review and consider the proposal over the next two weeks. Take-Two has repeatedly and firmly stated that EA's offer undervalues the company and its portfolio of original IP, and the actions it has taken in recent months to turn the company's operations around. In its statement, Take-Two says it will be consulting with independent financial and legal advisors -- Bear Starns and Lehman Brothers on the financial side, and Proskauer Rose LLP on the legal side -- on the latest EA move. The company then says that within 10 business days, it will "advise Take-Two’s stockholders of the Board’s position regarding the offer as well as its reasons for that position." Source: Gamasutra
An industry analyst has suggested the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto IV may disrupt the theatrical release of the Hollywood blockbuster Iron Man, which will occur just a few days later. Mike Hickey of Janco Partners said Take-Two's long-awaited game, which will hit shelves on April 29, could negatively impact ticket sales for Iron Man, which opens on May 2. The runaway success of Halo 3 in September was blamed by some Hollywood executives for poor box office numbers that month.
Sam Houser has talked a little bit about what might be some of the downloadable XBOX360 content.
Sam also stated that the episodes would be "pretty deep, offering another full-on adventure in this world" and that "you'll get a lot of content for your money", just as you should do with a boxed game.

MTV had a chance to get there hands on GTAIV on Wednesday, check out what they had to say. On Wednesday morning at the headquarters of Rockstar Games, we took Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers in hand and spent two hours with "Grand Theft Auto IV," trying both. The result: a better understanding of what "GTA" rendered on cutting-edge video game hardware feels like and how it might impact fans and nonfans of the series in a whole new way. "Grand Theft Auto IV" is only six weeks away from release, but only recently have the developers at Rockstar let reporters get their hands on the game. During MTV News' session, we explored the depths of the game's missions and the randomness of simulated city life that makes every tour of a Rockstar gaming metropolis a sandstorm of surprises. We flew helicopters, we returned an in-game text message on our cell phone, we crashed lots of cars, we wondered if the game's version of the Statue of Liberty was supposed to look like Hilary Clinton (not intentional, Rockstar says), and we earned a five-star wanted rating on the series' newly expanded six-star police-alertness meter. First we followed rules, or at least tried to. A Rockstar rep working the MTV News demo turned the lights out and loaded a two-week-old build of the Xbox 360 version of the game, displaying it on a large flat-panel TV. He used a developer cheat to warp the game's protagonist, immigrant Niko Bellic, to a mission called "Jamaican Heat." This mission is available early in the game and involves Bellic escorting a gun dealing Rastafarian named Little Jacob to a drug deal gone bad. These "GTA" games are certainly still not for kids. Little Jacob names the drugs he likes. The game's improved aiming controls offer smooth, precise techniques for shooting enemies in any body part. The radio stations still lampoon current events and skewer sacred cows. As ever, "GTA" is a crime story, unapologetically profane, irreverently sarcastic. Following the rules had us pursuing a few more "GTA IV" missions, one involving a shoot-out in a brownstone in the game's stand-in for Brooklyn, another a shoot-out at a dock, and another that wasn't a shoot-out. This last mission, named "Call and Collect," featured Niko helping a dirty cop by shaking down a blackmailer. We did this — almost — without firing a shot, relying instead on the power of cell phone technology. The blackmailer was hanging out near a fountain in a small park, though the game didn't indicate exactly which person milling about in that area was him. Instead, Niko received a text message on his ever-available cell phone. With a few presses of the controller, we could call the texted number, causing the blackmailer's phone to ring. Once the call commenced, the goal was to walk Niko through a crowd of people, looking and listening for someone talking on their cell phone. We heard him first and eventually stood face to face, with Niko's and the blackmailer's phones to their ears, their voices echoing through the phones and the virtual thin air. The blackmailer almost ran. Niko's gun stopped him. And then Niko ran from the cops. Mission just about complete. Read the rest of the article here...
